December to March is the best time to visit Delhi as the weather is pleasant and it is the time of various events and festivals. However, travel in Delhi may become impossible due to the dense blanket of smog, smoke and fog that lasts for a few weeks, sometimes a month or more. It usually begins around mid-November and one of its primary causes is said to be burning of crops in the fields of nearby states. Smog is dangerous and breathing can be quite difficult and traveling during this period in Delhi is strictly not advised.
